Biography

Ryan Falzon, born in Malta in 1988, is a visual artist, published author and art educator. Contemporary duality, narrative, social media, human interaction, and existential conditions are explored in his vibrant and expressive works. His work is often abrasive and playful, and he is known for constructing narratives by arranging disparate images in a collage-like fashion, allowing the viewer to visually wander. Falzon has participated in a substantial number of solo and group exhibitions in Malta and Europe since 2009, and his works can be found in both public and private collections in Europe and USA. His body of work from 2016 to 2019, including solo exhibitions "Quick Fix: A Morality Tale" (2016), "We Lost the War" (2017), and "Culture is Past Art is Future" (2018), has become a point of reference in contemporary Maltese political and socially engaged art. He has exhibited in various international exhibitions, including Ostrale Biennale (Dresden, 2019, 2023) and WATERGATE - "From water to land, from land to water" (Rijeka European Capital of Culture, 2020).

In 2011, Falzon earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from MCAST (Malta) in conjunction with Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (Germany), tutored by professors from the Bauhaus and Mannheim University of Applied Sciences. In 2023, Falzon achieved a Master of Arts in Fine Arts with distinction from the University of Malta.. Falzon is a Senior and IB Sixth Form art educator at St. Edward's College, Birgu, Malta. Between 2013 to 2015, Falzon co-managed the Xarolla Windmill Project, a young artists' collective that supported emerging artists through multidisciplinary works. Absolut Vodka selected Falzon as an artist for the global "Transform Today" project in May of 2014.

Since 2011, Falzon has published several short pieces in various publications. His works have appeared in local anthologies, and he is active in local literary circles. SAJF, the first novel by Falzon, was published by Kotba Calleja, Malta, in 2022. Several reviews have referred to
