Biography

colorful and playful paintings convey a sense of freedom and spontaneity through large format canvas with vibrant visual impact, full of emotion and expression.

Lucio Dubini is a contemporary abstract artist. Born in 1973 in Milan, Italy. He has been living in Malta since 2014.

His colorful and playful paintings convey a sense of freedom and spontaneity through large format canvas with vibrant visual impact, full of emotion and expression. They are inspired by everyday life, by songs, by words heard, by dreams, by the force and beauty of nature and by spirituality.

Since early age, he started creating art inspired by his parents’ paintings and by the abstract sculptures and paintings left by his grandfather which had a huge influence on his art.

He lived in various countries, exploring different worldviews. These experiences have broadened his mind-set and nourished his curiosity regarding the world and life in general. Furthermore, he was led to realise the importance of art in his life.

Dubini believes that through his art he can experience that same freedom of his childhood, where his imagination was carefree and spontaneous.

He’s mainly self taught but he also participated in some courses to improve his skills. He learned to represent movement during the evening life drawing class at the Academie des Beaux Arts in Paris and to portray volume during the marble sculpting class in Carrara and the wood sculpting course in Ortisei.

His main medium is acrylic colors, but he loves to experiment with other materials (charcoal, ink, markers, collage).

His arrival in Malta strongly influenced his art. The colors became brighter and the paintings more whimsical thanks to the contact with the lively blue sea and with the strong bright sun but also as this period coincided with positive changes in his life.

His works were exhibited in 2020 in a solo exhibition at the Malta Society of Arts in Valletta.
